My estimation: Shark Bay (Oceanside)

On sponge, 42m. THIS IS A SELDOM OFFERED, EXTREMELY RARE AND ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ZOILA SPECIES. JEANIANA THALAMEGA IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN AND ONLY A FEW (REALLY A FEW) SPECIMEN ARE FOUND EACH YEAR. MY SHELL IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL REPRESENTATIVE OF THIS JEANIANA FORM. THE EMBRYONIC BLUE OVER IT‘S DORSUM IS EXCEPTIONAL. BUT NOT ONLY THAT! DARK AND CLEAR TIGER SPOTTING OVER ORANGE MARGINS ARE UNBELIEVABLE. THERE IS ALSO A FAINT BLUE HALO ESPECIALLY NEAR THE ENDS. HAS SOME FLAWS AS SEEN IN THE PICTURES CAUSING THIS GRADE. BUT IT WOULD STAND OUT EVEN IF IT WAS PUT BETWEEN GEM SPECIMEN (IF YOU CAN FIND ANY!!).

Dived on sponge at 27-30 metres, May, 1994. Very rare from this locality now. I am sure that it is a real jeaniana jeaniana from Gnaraloo. These shells can be similar to sheylae but tend to have much paler margins and the base less black.

Australia (WA) › Point Quobba

Collected by Gary Wilson 2006, Depth 30 m, flat plateau reef. The shell features a fabulous dark overall color with fabulous spotting over the dorsum. Size is just over the 70mm threshold which is always a bonus. Has a faint blue frosting on the left margin separating the cream/ black spotted margins and the darker colored dorsum. The base is a very dark brown. A high and broad shell, this stands out along side other sherylae's. Grading for the shell is F+++ due to two, tiny specs on the dorsum (nacred over sand inclusions), clearly seen in the listing. Here is your chance to get a very good size shell, 70.5mm which presents very well.

Here is a wonderful beauty of a Cypraea jeaniana aurata from Australia. This shell is not collected anymore and only comes from old collections. Trawled by fishermen at 150 meters, off Shark Bay, Western Australia, 1981. The size is large at 81.9mm and this specimen has a nice humped dorsum. It is F++ due to one small well healed scar near the spire.I tried to take several pictures of this area so that you can see the mark. The shell has no chips, cracks, or narce lifts

This shell was trawlled by Taiwanese trawlers. These shells are no longer being brought in as they have been banned from fishing in Australian waters. Coweries like these come on the market from older collections. This is from my private collection, and a very rare shell. In fine +++ condition. It is 83 mm and runs larger than most you will find on the market.
